The Best Book About Pessimism I Ever Read

This is a book accompanying an exhibition by the same name in 2002 at the ... in Germany.

I found this book in the Serpentine gallery shop by chance and only picked it up because of the John Byrne painting on the cover. I opened it and saw Lucy McKenzie's name in it too. I then realized it had been reduced from £14.99 to £4.80. I had to have it and now it is mine.

The combination of bot Byrne and McKenzie in one publication was enough for me but the content of the articles within this book are far greater than i could have hoped for.

McKenzie writes about her being recomended the book Lanark by Alasdair Gray by a New York publisher and how its "The best book about pessimism he had ever read". a summery of this book follows and then her train of thought is followed to John Byrne as well as Joanne Tatham & Tom O'Sullivan. All are Scottish artists and together a showcase of what they have to offer. look into narrative
